Plant the Pavement! 2012
We are proud to be the first Growing Power Regional Outreach Center to also be offering an abbreviated Youth Version of Plant the Pavement! through our partnership with Longview School in Raleigh. Students from throughout the region can choose to attend this single-day workshop on either Thursday, November 8 or Friday, November 9. We welcome any high-school age class or other organized student group who is interested in learning more about sustainable agriculture, urban farming, or social justice.
If you or someone you know works with youth and would like to attend, please contact Shosha Capps at shosha@foodshuttle.org or (919) 322-8878 to request application materials.
Space is VERY limited at the youth workshops, so please get your applications in by October 1 for the best chance to reserve a spot.
Each youth participant can choose 2-3 hands-on break-out session in addition to a required classroom session on urban agriculture and food justice.
Hands-on break-out sessions include:
Hoop house construction
Year-round production of microgreens
Aquaponics
Mushroom production
Compost & Vermiculture
There is NO COST to youth participants for this event at Longview School. We will provide a healthy breakfast and lunch. Teachers or other organizers are responsible for transportation to the event.
